Shiatsu is a form of body work from Japan. It is based on the same points and channels as acupuncture and is often described as "acupuncture without needles". Shiatsu addresses both the physical and energetic components of illness and discomfort.
How is Shiatsu different from acupuncture and massage?
Instead of stimulating acupuncture points with needles, the shiatsu therapist uses their thumbs, palms, and elbows to apply pressure. They treat the entire meridian, as well as specific points, to achieve a balancing effect. Unlike massage they work over the clothes, and without oil.
